The Sixth Charity Banquet and Silent Auction organized to support new academic programs and the development of the UkrainianCatholicUniversity will be held October 26 in Kyiv in the ballroom of the Fairmont Grand Hotel (1 Naberezhno-Khreshchatytska St.)
The banquet is organized by the university’s supporters in Kyiv. This year the Honorary Committee of the Charity Banquet is composed of the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Patriarch Sviatoslav Shevchuk; His Beatitude Lubomyr Husar; the head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski; philanthropist Konstantin Temertey; artist Mykhailo Demtsiu; writer Maria Matios; philosopher Myroslav Popovych; and others.
Each year, the charity banquet is attended by public figures, politicians, diplomats, and businesspersons – people who care about the fate of the Ukrainian Catholic University and who wish to support UCU. Last year the charity event was attended by over two hundred guests, and as a result more than one million hryvnias were collected for the needs of the university.
An important part of the charity banquet is the traditional Silent Auction, which on October 26 will present more than 80 lots, including works by Tiberius Silvashi, Ihor Azarov, Ivan Marchuk, Serhyi Hay, Mykhailo Demtsiu, Edward Belsky, Yuriy Koch, Volodymyr Bohuslavsky, Olena Pryduvalova, and the work of artists of the Second International Plein Air, which was held in support of the university in Slovenia.
“UCU is a nonprofit private educational institution that operates according to the system used by Western universities who raise funds for their activities and for educating students from donors. The charity banquet in Kyiv is a unique event, which attracts over two hundred adherents who would like to support the development of quality higher education in Ukraine and education at UCU with their ideas, work, and funds. Thanks to this banquet, we can help more than 50 students,” says deputy head of development Olha Zarichynska.
A raffle will also be held during the charity banquet. The lots were given by the Embassies of Switzerland, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Canada, Germany, Libya, CzechRepublic, Argentina, Brazil, Poland, and the United States. The lots will also include original works by leading Ukrainian designers Liliya Pustosvit, Olya Myrtsalo, Yaryna Mertsalo, and books from the publishing houses A-BA-BA-HA-LA-MA-HA and Our Format. The National Geographic Ukraine magazine, a media partner of the banquet, will provide unique maps.
The musical theme of this year’s banquet will be inspired by Kvitka Tsisyk. Thus the winner of the Kvitka Tsisyk Grand Prix Competition, singer Oksana Mukha, will perform Kvitka’s songs. The leader of the group Plach Yeremiyi, Taras Chubay, will also perform for the guests.
An exclusive lot this year will be a painting by Mykhailo Demtsiu, “I Will Go to the Distant Mountains,” which he created specially for the charity banquet and which is dedicated to Kvitka Tsisyk. The work will be exhibited among the auction items, and the proceeds will go toward the establishment of the annual Kvitka Tsisky Scholarship for university students.
The Annual Charity Banquet in Kyiv is a traditional event in support of the UkrainianCatholicUniversity and has been held since 2008. The banquet is organized by UCU’s supporters in Kyiv. Each year an Honorary Committee is formed for the event. The committee is composed of leading religious figures, politicians, businesspersons, and artists.
