Fellowship Program for Journalists (Germany) (Deadline: November 01, every year)

Wednesday, 6 November, 2013

Sorry, this entry is only available in Ukrainian.

Fellowship Program for Journalists from Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe and from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

In cooperation with the Berliner Journalisten-Schule, the Robert Bosch Stiftung organizes a three-month fellowship program for journalists in spring.

For journalists from Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe

On the one hand, it is aimed at journalists from Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe, whose program includes a one-month stay at the Berliner Journalisten-Schule, followed by an internship in an editorial department in Berlin.

The training imparts profound knowledge of Germany, its bilateral relations and of the European Union before the fellows – depending on their interests and qualifications – complete a two-month internship in the editorial department of a renowned publisher, radio or television station. Meetings and interviews with representatives from politics and social affairs are also scheduled during their stay in the German capital.

Journalists from Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, and the Ukraine, as well as for the first time from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia, who already gained perennial work experience, may apply.

Good German language skills, both spoken and written, are required.

Period: March 1 – May 31, 2014

For journalists from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

By the same token, German speaking, professionally experienced journalists from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland can spend three months working in editorial departments in Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe. Before starting out on the program, fellows will meet the media-mediators fellows of the current year from Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe, alumni of the program as well as German foreign correspondents and experts of their region during a three-day introductory seminar in Berlin and Stuttgart.

Applicants should have at least an elementary knowledge of the national languages in Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, and the Ukraine.
It is possible to participate in a language course in advance.

Period: April 1 – June 30, 2014

General information

All fellows learn about the daily work routines of their colleagues in a foreign country and produce reports for their host editorial department. Mentors support them in the host editorial departments individually. In Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe they are generally supported by a colleague who has already been a Robert Bosch Stiftung fellow and worked in a German editorial department. Journalists, in their role as “temporary foreign correspondents”, should report to their home country editorial departments during their stay abroad.

The experiences and contacts gained during the program are to help participants report about the host country and current developments in the new European Union member states competently after their return.

The deadline for applications for all fellowships in Germany and Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe is November 01 every year.
