Collegium 2 Set to Open in June

Friday, 12 February, 2021

Collegium 2 will house students, staff, and guests of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU). It was designed to be a living, learning community. The official opening of Collegium 2 is planned for June 26, but trial use is planned to begin in the spring.

The new, five-story structure covers more than 86,000 square feet. A significant part of the first floor and the lower level will contain areas for student clubs, game rooms, classrooms, the office of the dean of student life and student government, a laundry room, and parking for bicycles, which will be accessible for all students of UCU, not only those living in Collegium 2.

A student admissions center will be housed in Collegium 2. Guests on parts of the second and third floors will have a beautiful view of the nearby park and city. Students and curators will lodge on floors two through five.

According to Fr. Yuriy Kozlovskyi, the master of Collegium 1, “students will not simply live here, but be formed: They study and develop together with the community. This differentiates the UCU Collegium not only from other dormitories in Ukraine but from similar student lodgings throughout the world.”

Collegium 2 will house more than 200 residents: students and curators, that is, university staff who will share life with the students. The formation program includes spiritual, cultural, educational, and sports components.

According to Fr. Kozlovskyi, Collegium 2, like Collegium 1, “will have rooms for people with special needs… with wider doors, a larger area for the lavatory, adapted interiors.” Collegium 1 houses the Emmaus House, a community of people with developmental disabilities who are helped by volunteers and are part of the life of the wider university community.

Regardless of the pandemic and difficult financial situation, a number of benefactors and friends of the university have continued their support of the construction of UCU’s new campus.
