The Open Society Foundation and Maastricht University invite applications for the scholarships in the field of European Studies. Applicants will be expected to have received their first university degree, be both nationals of and resident in Georgia, Moldova or Ukraine and not have already received or be currently receiving financial benefit for academic studies.
European Studies (ES)
– ES is a one-year international Master of Arts programme.
– ES is a selective master’s programme for all applicants who have not graduated from the Maastricht University Bachelor of Arts in European Studies.
– All courses are taught in English.
– The master’s programme in European Studies is an interdisciplinary programme, combining historical, economic, political, cultural and international relations perspectives.
– Students can choose between two study-tracks: – European International Politics; – European Politics and Administration
– European Studies has an international student-body.
– The didactic format of the programme combines theoretical expertise, project work and skills training.
Student profile
The student body of the master’s programmes ES is highly international. It is primordially aimed at bachelor’s graduates with a strong interest in an interdisciplinary approach of European and international affairs, eager to look behind the scenes of formal institutions. The programme appeals to students who wish to embark upon an international career or to work on policy-issues in an international context. The programme requires a profound knowledge of European Studies in general and the EU in particular. Students are therefore required to have a study-background with a curriculum which covered these areas substantially, in order to be able to start the master’s studies at an advanced level.
Requirements
The master’s programme in European Studies is open to students holding a bachelor’s degree in European Studies from Maastricht University. Other students have to apply for admission and are subject to an admissions procedure. In order to be eligible for admission, students need to have:
– A bachelor’s degree in European Studies or in a related and relevant field (e.g. Political Science, International Relations, International Law, International Economics, Contemporary History, Cultural Sciences), with a curriculum which made them well acquainted with European history, the European integration process, the institutional structure of the European Union, and theories and methods of social and political science.
– An advanced level of English: IELTS-test, minimum score 6.5 or TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 90. The Board of Admissions will assess each application on the basis of these criteria and the student’s academic merit and motivation.
All candidates should submit an application form together with all supporting documents to Osvita Educational Advising Center by 16:00 on February 8, 2010. In addition, all applicants must also apply online to the University of Maastricht by filling out an online application form on www.studielink.nl . Hard copies of application without online application will NOT be reviewed. Please note that in case of submission of application via mail it is an applicant’s responsibility that the documents reach the Osvita Center mailbox by the deadline.
Semi-finalists will be invited for an interview which will be held in Kyiv in first half of April, 2010.
