THE BRIDGE PROGRAM – Summer School of Journalism in Prague and Istanbul (deadline: April 30th, 2014)
The Bridge Program is a professional development program designed for aspiring young professionals in journalism, media and related fields. The goal of the program is to advance awareness of and access to reporting tools and networks of during a two week summer course in Prague and Istanbul. The program is organized by the Prague Freedom Foundation and Zaostreno o.p.s. and will be hosted in Istanbul by Columbia Global Centers Turkey and will be under the patronage of Charles University in the Czech Republic.
The summer school will take place on August 9–23, 2014 (August 9-16 in Prague, August 17-23 in Istanbul). It will feature academic coursework, mentored research, workshops with experts on various aspects of media work, roundtables with journalists and policymakers, and visits to local media and news agencies. Participants will also work on individual and team projects under the supervision of experienced editors; the outcome of their work will be offered for publication to news outlets in the students’ home countries.
- CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION PROCESS
The program aims to attract applicants who are currently enrolled students of journalism, media, communications or related majors, and who have successfully completed a minimum of two semesters of their education. In addition, applicants must have an overall excellent academic standing and excellent command of the English language. Professional experience in the field is desirable but not required.
Only citizens of the following countries are eligible to apply: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Kosovo, Morocco, Romania, Slovakia, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine and the USA.
Applicants must have a passport valid through September 2015 and be able to travel to the Czech Republic and Turkey.
Applications are accepted through the online form, and must include a transcript of college records, CV, recommendation letter, statement of purpose and a project proposal focusing on this year’s theme – “Freedom of the Press”.
The application must be submitted by April 30th, 2014.

Successful candidates will receive a full scholarship covering travel expenses, room and board, meals, and study materials.
